When it comes to unique jewelry, it has to be handmade. Connecticut artists and artisans alike take great pride in their work. Stunning use of gems, silver, gold, copper and leather adorn many a distinct wearer when the jewelry is created and formed by the hands of a local artist. With so many fine places to find handmade jewelry in Connecticut, it’s not surprising that jewelry artists flock to art centers to sell their gorgeous wares.

Brookfield Craft Center
286 Whisconier Road
Brookfield, CT 06804

Next to a babbling brook, waterfall, quaint barn-like workshops and set in one of the most picturesque New England settings is the Brookfield Craft Center. Here artists come to learn the craft of jewelry making. Each piece is as unique as the artist. Since the Craft Center has a gift shop, it’s easy to find that perfect pair of silver earrings or just the right precious stone bracelet or necklace.

Guilford Art Center
411 Church St.
Guilford, CT, 06437
(203) 453-5947

Another scenic locale in Connecticut, where handmade jewelry is always available in its gift shop, is the Guilford Art Center. This art center evolved from a craft fair that was always such a success in Guilford that it made sense to provide a place for artists to work, teach and sell their original creations. These include beautiful pieces of jewelry that are handsomely displayed throughout the Art Center’s gift shop. The jewelry is described as “highly covetable.”

There’s something special about the handmade jewelry you’ll find at the Silvermine Arts Center. That’s because there’s a palatable sense that “art is vital to the spirit,” and this is reflected in the handmade jewelry of the artists who work, study and sell their creations here. While the scenery here is traditional New England quaintness, the jewelry inside the shop is so gorgeous and so much in demand that it is even available online. Silversmithing is a specialty here.

Mystic Arts Center
9 Water St.
Mystic, CT 06355
(860) 536-7601
www.mysticarts.org

While most New Englanders flock to Mystic for a seaside experience, acquariums and tourist attractions, the Mystic Arts Center has a draw of its own. Finding handmade metal jewelry and original beaded works by the most talented artisans is as common an experience at the Mystic Arts Center as its handmade jewelry is uncommon. The handmade jewelry is so exquisite that locals as well as tourists make their way to this arts center to discover the most original necklaces, bracelets and earrings.

Creative Arts Workshops
80 Audubon St.
New Haven, CT 06510
(203) 562-4927
www.creativeartsworkshop.org

With weekly demonstrations on jewelry-making tools and techniques, it’s no surprise that one can find all types of handmade jewelry here. Since artists create embellishments and use metal-smithing as well as forging and shaping jewelry, it’s always a treat when fall rolls around because that’s when the galleries here get ready for the annual six-week holiday extravaganza. All types of arts and crafts, including handmade jewelry, are on exhibit and for sale.
