Nothing adds personality and character to your home or business quite like distinctive, attractive works of art. In 2012, we told you about some of the best places in Connecticut to purchase fine artwork without going broke. Here are some more options for finding that perfect painting, photo, sculpture or conversation piece at prices that won’t set you back hundreds or thousands of dollars.

Wadsworth Atheneum Gift Shop
600 Main St.
Hartford, CT 06103
(860) 278-2670
www.wadsworthatheneum.org

The Wadsworth is Connecticut’s premier art museum, and it includes a first-rate gift shop as well. At the shop, you can buy inexpensive prints of some of the museum’s paintings, including those by artists such as Andrew Wyeth and Georgia O’Keefe. It also offers coasters, notecards, mugs and jewelry decorated with famous artwork. Look for quirkier items as well, such as an inflatable, 18-inch replica of Edvard Munch’s classic “Scream.”

Farmington Valley Arts Center
25 Arts Center Lane
Avon, CT 06001
(860) 678-1867
www.artsfvac.org

For the past 40 years, the Farmington Valley Arts Center has provided education and support to aspiring local artists. Its paintings, drawings, sculptures and other creations can be seen and purchased at the FVAC’s galleries. You can often find great gifts at a discount during its special holiday events. And on Wednesday through Saturday afternoons, visit its Drezner Gallery where coordinator Sandy Buerkler can assist you in finding just the right work of art to fit your budget.

Framed
1224 Whitney Ave.
Hamden, CT 06517
(203) 288-1991
www.framedinhamden.com

This custom framing shop allows customers to buy artwork through its partnership with the website LocalFramer.com. Just log on and browse through hundreds of prints in over a dozen categories, most of which are well under a hundred dollars. When you find the one you want, place it in your cart and LocalFramer will ship it – free of charge – to Framed, which can then fit it with an attractive, affordable frame. The Hamden shop also sells a variety of pottery as well as some paintings by local artists in its Gallery Twelve 24.
