On a steamy summer afternoon, there’s nothing like a cold shake or smoothie to cool you off. By nighttime, you may still be craving something similar to drink, but this time something more adult, with a little bit of a kick. With that in mind, here are some establishments throughout the state that offer great refreshing frozen cocktails for you to sip on those hot humid evenings.

On the Waterfront
250 Pequot Ave.
New London, CT 06320
(860) 444-2800

This New London restaurant and bar, with its gorgeous view of the Thames River, is a popular drinking and dining destination during the summer. It specializes in seafood and pasta dishes, and for frozen drinks, serves classic and strawberry pina coladas. But what you won’t be able to resist is the Waterfront Mudslide, a decadent mixture of Godiva chocolate liqueur, vanilla vodka, Kahlua and Irish cream that comes complete with whipped cream and a cherry.

Coyote Blue
1960 Saybrook Road
Middletown, CT 06457
(860) 345-2403
www.coyoteblue.com

Since 1993, this Tex-Mex café has done an expert job at bringing a Southwestern feel to New England. Coyote Blue has received rave reviews for its margaritas, but there are a number of frozen cocktails to choose from as well. Try a Kahlua Sombrero or White Russian made with ice cream or perhaps a frozen lime, raspberry or strawberry drink with tequila or rum. They’re perfect for enjoying with some of the best Mexican food in the state.

Michel Angelo’s Restaurant Pizzeria & Lounge
825 Cromwell Ave.
Rocky Hill, CT 06067
(860) 257-3136
www.michelangelosct.com

Rocky Hill pizzeria Michel Angelo’s offers up quite a few frozen cocktails to go with its specialty pies. Among the highlights is the mudslide which mixes Irish Cream, coffee liqueur and vodka with ice cream (it can also be made with strawberry). You also can’t go wrong with the Bushwacker with its blend of pina colada, coffee liqueur, ice cream and rum, or the Toasted Almond, a combination of Amaretto, coffee liqueur and ice cream.

Taqueria Tavern
140 Park Road
West Hartford, CT 06119
(860) 899-1981
www.taqueriatavern.com

Check out Taqueria Tavern for distinctive takes on classic Mexican dishes and to order a frozen margarita, available in a variety of flavors, from its funky, brightly-colored bar. Also consider a Taqueria Gold, which adds Bud Light Lime to a frozen margarita for what the Tavern calls a “beerita.” Bring a date and the two of you can share a 45-ounce Taquerita Gold (with Corona or Bud Light Lime) outside on the patio.

Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville at Mohegan Sun
1 Mohegan Sun Blvd.
Uncasville, CT 06382
(860) 862-2626
www.margaritavillemohegansun.com

The musician’s tropical-themed bar and restaurant, located at Mohegan Sun Casino, is a reflection of his laid-back worldview. But you don’t have to be a Parrothead to appreciate its satisfying frozen boat drinks. Favorites include the Chocolate Banana Colada with Pinnacle Chocolate Whipped Vodka, Meyers Dark Rum and coconut puree, and Don’t Stop the Carnival, a blend of Margaritaville Silver Rum with strawberry, banana and mango puree. The menu also includes frozen margaritas and daiquiris in five flavors. Be sure to stop by Margaritaville’s Smuggler’s Hold shop before you leave and buy a frozen concoction maker so you can recreate your experience at home.
