The night before Thanksgiving is a traditional time for people to return to their home state to reunite with friends and family. Last year, we shared five great bars in Connecticut to meet up with old acquaintances and loved ones. Those are still great options, but here are five additional places to consider.

The Tavern Downtown
201 Ann Uccello St.
Hartford, CT 06103
(860) 524-9990

If you and your friends haven’t met at The Tavern since last year, don’t look for it at its old address – it moved across the street this spring to the location formerly occupied by Coach’s. The new Tavern is bigger and brighter with a large bar and twice as many tables as before. The beer menu is something to behold - 39 draft beers and and 99 bottles including numerous pale ales, IPAs and lagers. It’s a great place to unwind after stressful Black Wednesday travel.

Triple Play Sports Bar & Grille
16 Straits Turnpike
Watertown, CT 06795
(860) 417-2877
www.tripleplaybargrille.com

Triple Play was started by three longtime pals with the goal of providing a fun, inviting place for friends and family to drink, eat and catch all the latest games. It’s a simple concept that’s perfectly executed with 17 HDTVs in surround sound and a menu filled with unique takes on classic pub food. Try a popular appetizer like the onion rings stuffed with pulled pork, build your own burger and pair it with one of four types of fries or order one of the six mac and cheese dishes.

B.J. Ryan’s
57 Main St.
Norwalk, CT 06851
(203) 866-7926

The unpretentious neighborhood pub vibe of this Norwalk bar makes it an ideal place to reunite with friends. The brick walls on both stories are decorated with black and white photos of area restaurants, and there are large HDTVs that will play whatever game you request. Choose from an array of domestic and imported beers or try B.J. Ryan’s house ale. The Pub Burger, fish tacos and pizzas get raves, as do the reasonable prices.

Dish Bar & Grill
900 Main St.
Hartford, CT 06103
(860) 249-3474
www.dishbarandgrill.com

The spacious Dish can accommodate everyone in your old gang for a special evening. The Dish is upscale, but not intimidating, with live music and delicious entrees and desserts. The beverage choices are especially impressive, with dozens of wines, 20 creative cocktails and plenty of beers. If you’re having dinner, try the Estrella Damm Inedit, an import from Spain specifically brewed to drink with meals.

The Main Pub
306 Main St.
Manchester, CT 06040
(860) 647-1551
www.mainpub.com

If you’re returning to Connecticut on Black Wednesday and want to feel at home, Manchester’s Main Pub is a perfect destination. The Main Pub has the look and feel of a classic New England tavern where regulars laud the friendly, attentive service. There’s a terrific selection of food and drinks along with live music and acoustic open mic nights on Wednesdays. Maybe the Pub will even have its Christmas decorations up to get you ready for the holiday season.
