We recently told you about some of the best bars in Connecticut with drinking games. One game that is growing in popularity in bars and taverns across the country is cornhole, where players try to toss beanbags through a hole in a plank raised at an angle. While that sounds very basic, those who play it say it can become quite addicting. If you are one of them, it may not always be as easy to find cornhole games in Connecticut as it is in the Midwest, but it’s not impossible. Here are some state establishments to check out if you want to play what is affectionately known as “hillbilly horseshoes.”

Dogwatch Cafe

Stonington, CT 06378
(860) 415-4510

Overlooking Stonington’s Dodson Boatyard, the Dogwatch Cafe is open year-round, but is especially pleasant in the summer. During those warm weather months, you and your friends can play cornhole on its back deck – the Dog Pound – with its scenic view of the harbor. After you’ve worked up an appetite, try one of its “dogwiches” or maybe a lobster roll. The Dogwatch also hosts live music on the weekends and offers numerous drink specials such as $10 wines on Tuesdays.

This summer, relax before beginning your work week by playing cornhole every Sunday night at this Milford establishment. Once the evenings get warm, you can get a game started on its deck next to the Wepawaug River. Celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2014, Stonebridge provides happy hour discounted drinks and half-price appetizers during the week and live music every Friday and Saturday.
