Cinco de Mayo is a holiday created to commemorate the 1862 victory of Mexican forces over the French army in the battle of Puebla. It’s also a great excuse to take advantage of drink specials on tequila, listen to some live mariachi bands and dine on incredible, authentic Mexican grub. This year, consider going somewhere for the food, the atmosphere and the spirit of the holiday. Enjoy good eats, good company and good prices in some of these local hot spots.  After all, it’s still Cinco de Mayo, so you know there will still be those great drink specials.

Dos Amigos in Torrington has the fun atmosphere you’d look for on any early night out, but Cinco de Mayo is surely the best time to go. The food is good, the portions are generous, and the prices are fair. The venue is always fuller than the parking lot can contain, so be sure to get there early. Dos Amigos has a family friendly face to the restaurant, but you can always eat at the bar, which is well stocked and cheap. And it won’t hurt to sip on the best margarita the town of Torrington has to offer. This restaurant bar is also well known for its great specials, like $5 margarita Monday, so you’re sure to find some great deals in Cinco de Mayo. Although Dos Amigos closes early (9:30 p.m.) this bar serves as a great first stop on your Cinco de Mayo night out.
