For those who love a roof-top bar, the Elbow Room is where it’s at. Outdoor tables and chairs are scattered through out the area, allowing many a thirsty patron to grab a seat and unwind with a drink. Enjoy great conversation and fresh air under added shade of nearby trees, or stake your claim at the bar as you take in the crisp scenery that surrounds. The Elbow Room also serves food for those looking to re-fuel. The evenings get a bit hectic, as the dinner crowd dissipates and nighttime bar crawlers start to hustle in. Whether you desire a quick afternoon spritzer or plan to be in it for the long haul come sunset, the Elbow Room is undoubtedly one of the best outdoor bars in Hartford.

A patio is a glorious thing, especially when it also serves as a bar, which is why the Pig’s Eye Pub is so well loved. Aside from a great bar scene inside, thirsty patrons need only take a step outside to enter a whole other arena of drinking and socializing. Open Wednesday through Saturday year-round, the patio keeps the nights warm with heat lamps during colder months. While there are no stools or tables, there is plenty of room to stand and stretch your legs while enjoying the fresh air. The patio at Pig’s Eye delivers exactly what it should: a pleasant spot that serves equal parts beverages and atmosphere. Hours of operation: Monday through Thursday, 4 p.m. to 1 a.m.; Friday and Saturday, 4 p.m. to 2 a.m.; and Sunday, 4 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Up Or On the Rocks

A nightclub that includes an outdoor bar is rare, which is why Up or On the Rocks is so distinct. Dance until you think you might drop, and then make your way to the patio, where soft breezes and cold cocktails call. Not only does the patio at Up or On the Rocks serve drinks, but it also serves them with less of a line. When the crowd at the main bars is 10 feet deep, you can always slip outdoors for faster service and fresher air.

If you want a drink with a view, this is the place to go. Located directly on the shores of the Connecticut River, this place was made for those lively summer nights. A spacious outdoor patio with live music often throughout the summer. It’s a great place to go with a few friends or in a larger group. It’s not the ocean, but it’s the next best thing. It is both serene and relaxing, but also brings the nightlife feeling to every evening. In the afternoon, grab a bite and a drink on the water and at night, enjoy a night out. If you don’t like sand, but love the ocean-side view, this is the place. And if the rains start to come while you’re there, there’s an indoor area as well. Seasonal, the summer hours are Thursday, 4 p.m. to 1 a.m., Friday and Saturday, 4 p.m. to 2 a.m., Sunday, 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Sully’s Pub

2071 Park Street
Hartford, CT 06106

By day, Lena’s Pizza serves a top-notch slice, by night, Sully’s Pub offers a great outdoor, Tiki-Style bar with a variety of drafts and more than one full bar. It has tons of outdoor seating with outdoor bars and multiple levels. The phrase, “Brings the beach to you,” comes to mind. Order up a tropical drink served in one of their coconut mugs and when you’re done, take the souvenir cup home and use it again. Live music is a must there and they’re proud supporters of local bands. Don’t expect to go and not hear music. This adds to the great ambiance and atmosphere. Just hand out outside with friends or rock out with the band. It’s a good time had by all and borders the West Hartford, Hartford line. The outdoor bar is seasonal, but worth the trip. Check the Website for information on who’s playing when and all the happenings at Sully’s and Lena’s.
