Did Mindy Kaling Make The Right Choice?

Mindy Kaling is the funny lady who has played Kelly Kapoor on The Office for the past eight seasons, but now she’s moving past Dunder Mifflin for a whole new series on Fox.  The Mindy Project will showcase Kaling’s skills in front of the camera and behind the scenes… but will the new show be worth losing the best gossip girl in Scranton?

The Mindy Project
Dunder Mifflin's customer service rep wishes she was living Bridget Jones' life, and is more than a little obsessed with boys, dating and celebrity gossip.
Winner From the look of things, Mindy Lahiri, the skilled OB/GYN whose personal life is a total disaster, IS the woman Kelly wishes she was.
A paper company in Scranton, PA isn't the best place from which to spread your wings and fly...
Winner Mindy co-owns a medical practice, so things are looking up (as long as she can get her career off the ground!)
Winner The colorful crazies at Dunder Mifflin will probably be tough to beat, even with Michael Scott out of the picture.
Mindy shares a practice with hot-headed Danny, bad news Jeremy and a bunch of potential scene-stealing supporters.
Winner Office temp turned former VP of sales Ryan Howard was absolutely toxic for Kelly, but their off-and-off-again relationship was a hilarious trainwreck.
Mindy's trying her best to keep co-worker Jeremy Reed out of her bed, but she hasn't had much luck finding any "Mr. Right"s
Last year saw an extended guest stint for James Spader, who kind of overstayed his welcome.
Winner The pilot alone promises turns from SNL's Bill Hader and Ed Helms (who, let's face it, is usually best in small doses).
Mindy Kaling not only played Kelly, but served as a chief writer for The Office for years... through the good times (Seasons 2 through 4), and the not-so-good.
Winner Mindy is one funny lady, and she's totally running the show this time out! The last time we saw a spinoff from The Office, we got Parks and Recreation, possibly the funniest sitcom on TV... maybe lightning will strike twice?
Winner The Office is still the reigning king of Thursday night comedy, and NBC isn't looking to change its coveted 9pm timeslot anytime soon.
The Mindy Project will follow New Girl, another offbeat sitcom with a delightfully real-world female lead. The 9 to 10 block could be a great double dose of girl power!

4 out of 7

We'll miss you, Kelly, but based on what we've seen so far, The Mindy Project looks like a real winner when it premieres this Fall! Mindy Kaling is a talented writer AND a funny actress, and we can't wait to see her finally take center stage on her own show.
