Woman Dead, Man In Custody Following Police Response In Newington

(CBS Connecticut) — A woman is dead and her husband is in custody after police from several communities descended upon a neighborhood in Newington Thursday morning.

Police responded to 52 Gilbert Road around 9 a.m. on a report of a woman lying inside the front door of the home. Nearby residents were told to shelter in place as a precaution, as crisis negotiators responded to the scene, said police.

Police say they also located a man with serious injuries in the home. He was taken to a local hospital and is considered a suspect in his wife’s death, said police.

By early afternoon, authorities said there was no longer a threat, and residents received the all clear.

Newington Police were assisted by the New Britain, West Hartford, and Hartford Police Departments along with the Connecticut State Police Major Crime Squad and the New Britain State’s Attorney’s Office.
