Waterbury Police Make An Arrest In Double Homicide

WATERBURY, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) – A woman and her daughter are dead in a double homicide in Waterbury.

Police were called to a multi-family home at 21 Third Street Friday morning for a disturbance call, to find the victims, said police.Callers had reported a  2 year old  in the parking lot  screaming. The caller said that there was blood everywhere.The child was taken to  St. Mary’s Hospital for evaluation and care.

The victims have been identified as  29 year old Chaquinequea Brodie  and 9 year old  daughter.Police have arrested   28 year old Anthony Rutherford of Waterbury.He has been charged with  2 counts of Murder, 2  counts of Risk of Injury to a Child,Illegal Discharge of a Firearm,Reckless Endangerment, Carrying a Pistol without a Permit,Illegal Possession of  a Weapon in a Motor Vehicle  and Interfering with an Officer.

He was in possession of a handgun  when he was taken into custody.

Police  say Brodie and  Chaquinequea  Brodie were in a relationship and that he is not the biological father of the 9 year old or  2 year old.Police continue to investigate and have not commented on a  motive.

Rutherford is being held  on a$2,500,000 bond and will be arraigned in Waterbury Superior Court  Monday.
