(CBS Connecticut) — A bear briefly followed a bicyclist on a rails-to-trails path in Farmington this afternoon.

Department of Energy and Environmental Protection spokesman Dennis Schain says the bicyclist reported the incident.

“He told Farminton Police that the bear did break away from him after a relatively short distance, and did not make any physical contact,” Schain said.

State wildlife officials plan to put a bear trap in the area, near Oak Ridge Street and the town’s police department.
