EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (CBS Connecticut and AP) – Police in East Hartford say a fight that started during a weekend soccer match spilled into the parking lot where one man stabbed another man before fleeing the scene.

The Journal-Inquirer reports that 40-year-old Omar Tibby, of East Hartford, was held on $500,000 bond at his arraignment Monday on charges including attempted murder and first-degree assault.

East Hartford police say the dispute started Sunday when Tibby objected to a tackle on his brother by Shawn McDonald and the two argued.

Police say Tibby chased McDonald into the parking lot and stabbed him.

Tibby told police he acted in self-defense because McDonald was hitting him with a golf club. Witnesses told police McDonald had a golf club but didn’t use it.

A bystander shot out two of Tibby’s tires as he fled.
