WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) – Connecticut’s last remaining women’s college will start admitting male undergraduates on a full-time basis starting in the fall of 2018.

University of Saint Joseph trustees voted unanimously for the change Wednesday. Two previous attempts to accept male students failed.

President Rhona Free says the data showed that by opening up the admission process to all students, the school would have more opportunities to expand undergraduate programs and create a more vibrant campus life.

Free says the decision was made from a position of “financial strength.”
