State Police Detectives Investigate Fatal East Hartford Construction Site Accident

(East Hartford, Conn./CBS Connecticut) – East Hartford, CT. (March 22, 2017): State Police Detectives from the Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit (FEIU) are investigating a fatal excavator accident.

On March 22, 2017 at approximately 12:45 p.m, troopers from Troop H – Hartford responded to the Route 2 westbound Governors Street overpass, East Hartford for a reported industrial accident involving an excavator at a construction site.

Upon arrival a John Deere Excavator was found on its side with the boom leaning over the overpass.  The operator of the excavator, John Dubray (9/11/1956) of Magnolia Hill in Bethlehem, CT., was ejected from the cab of the excavator.  Dubray was transported to Hartford Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

State Police detectives from the Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation as part of their responsibilities are construction/work site equipment.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct a post-mortem examination to determine cause and manner of death.

Inspectors from the Department of Constructions Services, Office of the State Fire Marshal are also assisting in the investigation.

I-84 eastbound, the Founder’s Bridge outbound, in East Hartford was closed for approximately 1.5 hours during the investigation.
