No Booze On Trains To Santa Con

(Hartford, Conn./CBS Connecticut) – Those planning to ride the rails from Connecticut to attend this weekend’s SantaCon event in New York City will have to abide by MTA rules when it comes to alcohol.

MTA officials say there is a ban on alcohol on Metro North Railroad and Long Island Railroad trains and stations.

The ban is in effect beginning Saturday at noon and lasting until noon on Sunday.

Santa Con is a mass gathering and pub crawl where attendees dress in Santa costumes or as elves, reindeer and other symbols of holiday season.

Some Santa Con events have been known to get out out hand with booze-fueled rowdy behavior.

The MTA says it will have police officers on duty at Penn Station and Grand Central Terminal, as well as various stations ready to confiscate alcohol and issue summonses for those caught carrying alcohol.
