Connecticut College Student Charged With DUI Following Crash

NEW LONDON, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) – A Connecticut College student has been charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence following a serious crash early Tuesday on Route 32 in New London.

Police say Sophia Thielman, 19, of Rye Brook, New York was behind the wheel of a car that collided with a scooter in the area of Benham Avenue. The crash occurred around 12:18 a.m.

The operator of the scooter, a male, was first taken to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London and then transferred to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone who witnessed it is asked to call New London police at 860-447-5269 or the Detective Bureau at 860-447-1481.
