ASHFORD, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) – A Hampton man is under arrest on drug charges after state police say the vehicle he was riding in went through a stop sign in Ashford Sunday afternoon.

Police say they found 336 bags of heroin, 8 grams of un-packaged raw heroin, 18 grams of fentanyl and a small amount of marijuana after pulling over the Chevy Silverado on Varga Road shortly after 3:30 p.m. The drugs were located by a state police canine, said troopers.

John Grooms, 29, is charged with illegal sale of a controlled substance, illegal possession of narcotics, and use of drug paraphernalia. He posted a $100,000 bond.

Grooms is due in Danielson Superior Court November 1.

The driver of the pickup was released after being cited for going through a stop sign.
