(CBS Connecticut) – One of the two AAA clubs that serves Connecticut has abruptly stopped offering state driver license and ID card renewals to non-members.

AAA Northeast, which operates the AAA offices in Branford, Danbury, Fairfield, Hamden, Milford, Norwalk, Stamford and Waterbury, notified state officials Monday morning that it was no longer providing renewals to non-AAA members, even though it had been collecting a $5 fee to provide the service. Governor Dannel Malloy has written AAA Northeast asking it to reconsider its decision.

This change does not affect AAA offices in Greater Hartford and Eastern Connecticut, which are operated by another affiliate of the auto club.
