(Hartford, Conn./CBS Connecticut) – The principal at a Wethersfield elementary school who was arrested over the weekend at Hartford WalMart is accused of following children in the store, attempting to photograph them.
That’s according to a Hartford Police incident report.
Forty-six-year-old John Bean is on leave from his job at Highcrest Elementary School.
He was arrested at the Flatbush Avenue WalMart Saturday after store security noticed him on surveillance attempting take pictures of children who weren’t in the general vicinity of their parents, according to police.
They say he kept the iPhone hidden with small toy package in order to conceal the device, police said.
When asked what he was doing, Bean said he was merely shopping.
It was thereafter, police say, that he was detained and questioned in the store, after which police say Bean resisted as he was being cuffed.
Bean is being charged with breach of peace and interfering with police. He’s due in court today.
