Police: Couple Locked Kids In Cages For Discipline

NEWINGTON, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) – Newington police have charged a couple now living in Pennsylvania with abusing their two adoptive children over a span of three years when they lived in Newington.

Police say Michael Thalmann, 44, and Jennifer Thalmann, 48, failed to provide the children adequate food, struck them with paddles, and secured them in locked dog cages as forms of discipline while living on Kirkham Street in Newington between 2013 and 2016.

Police say the victims were 9 and 10 years old.

Both suspects are charged with two counts of risk of injury to a minor and cruelty to persons. They were due to be arraigned in New Britain Superior Court on Monday.
