Missing Middletown Boater Found Safe by Freighter

(MIDDLETOWN, Conn./CBS Connecticut)  One of two Middletown boaters missing after leaving for a fishing trip off Point Judith, Rhode Island more than a week ago has been found alive.

22-year-old Nathan Carman was found by a freighter Sunday night on an inflatable life raft drifting 100 nautical miles south of Martha’s Vineyard, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard was alerted to the missing boaters back on Sept. 18 after 54 year-old Linda Carman and her son Nathan never returned from their trip.  The discovery comes two days after the Coast Guard suspended a search over 60,000 square miles.

Nathan was still being brought into port Sunday night by the freighter that found him, according to the Coast Guard.  He was listed in good condition.

There was still no sign of Linda Carman.
