Fire Suppressant Accidentally Released At Gas Station

( DEEP RIVER,Conn./CBS Connecticut)   –  The fire suppression system at the Cumberland Farms gas station on Main Street in Deep River accidentally discharged  Monday afternoon, covering vehicles and nearby property with a  fine powdery substance .The suppressant can be a respiratory irritant if inhaled.

Four people were taken to an area hospital for    evaluation and possible treatment.Students at an elementary  school behind the gas station were  kept in place  and plans were  developed  to coordinate their release so the children would not have to walk through the area.

An environmental contractor  has been hired for the clean up.
