(CBS Connecticut) – More than 100 communities across Connecticut have received letters from a California-based telecommunications company, notifying them of plans to install large utility poles in existing rights of way in their communities, according to the Connecticut Council of Small Towns.
The poles Mobilitie is seeking to install would be up to 120 feet high and 40 inches in diameter, according to letters received by the communities. Officials say it’s not exactly clear what kind of equipment would be installed on the poles.
Towns are expressing safety and aesthetic concerns and allege the company is trying to circumvent the regulatory approval process.
The Public Utilities Regulatory Authority has scheduled a technical meeting on the matter to for September 28 at 1 p.m. in New Britain.
