Fairfield University Gets $4M Donation From Trump’s Sister

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (CBS Connecticut and AP) – Fairfield University in Connecticut has received a $4 million donation from the sister of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

Maryanne Trump Barry is a federal judge who sits on the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Pennsylvania.

She said in a statement released Wednesday by the Jesuit university that the gift is to express gratitude for the accomplishments of the Rev. Jeffrey P. von Arx, who is stepping down after 12 years as Fairfield’s president. She cited in particular the founding of the Center for Ignatian Spirituality in 2014.

Barry is a 1958 graduate of Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts but a longtime supporter of Fairfield University. She received an honorary degree from the school in 2011.

Her gift will support scholarships and the spirituality center.
