CT State Police: Nearly 1,700 Caught Speeding Over Labor Day Weekend

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) – The Labor Day holiday weekend was a busy one for the Connecticut State Police, with State Troopers handing out almost 1,700 speeding tickets over the four-day period starting Friday.

Troopers also issued 165 seatbelt citations, and over 3,500 tickets for other moving violations including texting while driving, and tailgating.  In addition, 51 people were arrested for DUI, and 283 accidents were investigated in total, according to Trooper First Class Kelly Grant, who added, “Thankfully, there were no fatalities.”

Connecticut State Police step up enforcement over Labor Day weekend every year, and Troopers released their final statistics for 2016 on Tuesday morning.
