Connecticut Taps Rhode Island Official For Port Authority

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — The Connecticut Port Authority has a new executive director.

The authority’s board of directors has appointed Evan Matthews to take the helm. He will begin his new role Sept. 19.

Matthews is currently port director for the Quonset Development Corporation in Rhode Island. The Port of Davisville has experienced an increase in shipping traffic, revenue growth and infrastructure upgrades during Matthews’ tenure.

Connecticut Port Authority Chairman Scott Bates says Matthews “knows firsthand the complexities of East Coast maritime development” and has success in “managing a port and strengthening the commercial viability of surrounding properties.”

Matthews will manage day-to-day activities of the Connecticut Port Authority, including business development, marketing and outreach activities. He’ll also develop a strategic plan to increase the volume of cargo activity at Connecticut’s ports.
