Teen Hospitalized In Milford After Being Hit By Car

MILFORD, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) – Milford police report a 14-year-old boy is recovering after being hit by a vehicle Tuesday morning.

Officer Michael DeVito says the teenager was trying to cross Route 1 near Camden Street when he was struck by a car around 7:20am.

With kids heading back to school this week across Connecticut, DeVito says this accident should serve as a safety reminder to both pedestrians and motorists. “Milford is one of the many cities in Connecticut where many of the students walk to school… I think we have a two mile radius, where if you’re under that, you’re not guaranteed a bus,” the officer explained.  “I’m assuming at 14 years old, [the victim] is probably a freshman in high school.  Obviously, motorists need to be careful, as do the pedestrians themselves.”

According to DeVito, the teen was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.  The driver stopped after the crash, and is cooperating with police.
