Hartford Students Head Back To Start New School Year

HARTFORD, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) – Mayor Luke Bronin and other officials were out to welcome thousands of students in Hartford who are beginning the new school year Tuesday morning.

Riding school buses, Mayor Bronin, Superintendent Dr. Beth Schiavino-Narvaez, and others visited three schools, including Burr Elementary, where they were greeted by music.

The Superintendent explained there is a certain electricity on the first day of classes.  “It’s because the kids are back, the kids bring that electricity.  We miss them when they’re gone from us.  They bring our buildings to life and we’re so happy to welcome them back.”

One of the challenges ahead for school officials in the 2016-17 school year is to develop a district-wide facilities plan, to guarantee that every student can learn in a school with modern amenities.
