(Hartford, Conn./CBS Connecticut) – The state Department of Public Health is reporting the first case of West Nile Virus in Connecticut this season.
The patient is a Milford resident between the ages of 70 and 79, according to DPH.
The department says the person was originally diagnosed with encephalitis and lab tests confirmed the presence of West Nile antibodies.
Health officials say the patient did require hospitalization and did not travel out of the state before becoming sick.
Last year, there were ten confirmed West Nile cases statewide for the virus, which has been present in Connecticut since 1999.
