(Southington, Conn./CBS Connecticut) – Officials with Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection have lifted the advisory to residents regarding eating fish from a portion of the Quinnipiac River after a hazmat spill last week.

At a 3:30 pm press briefing at Southington Fire Department headquarters, DEEP officials lifted the advisory issued last week, discouraging residents from eating fish caught in the Quinnipiac River.

Last week, about 300 gallons of the chemical hexavalent chronium leaked from the Light Metals Coloring plant on Spring Street. That prompted DEEP to issue the advisory regarding fish from a section of the Quinnipiac from West Main Street downstream to Route 10.
