Former Police Officer Gets Prison Time In Steroids Case

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) – A former Connecticut police sergeant has been sentenced to 16 months in prison for running a steroid distribution ring and using the profits for international travel and stays at expensive hotels.

Former Newtown Sgt. Steven Santucci was sentenced Thursday in federal court in Hartford. After prison, he must serve six months of home confinement, perform 120 hours of community service and pay a $5,000 fine.

Santucci pleaded guilty in December to charges including conspiracy to distribute anabolic steroids. About a dozen people were arrested in the federal investigation.

Authorities say Santucci made large quantities of steroids from ingredients he ordered from China and sold them to others.

Santucci admitted he began using steroids about 10 years ago when he wasn’t getting the body-building results he wanted.
