Convicted Home Invasion Killer Tries To Kill Himself

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Connecticut prison officials say one of the men convicted in the brutal 2007 murder of a family in their Cheshire home has attempted suicide in prison.

Karen Martucci of the state Department of Correction confirmed Thursday that Joshua Komisarjevsky tried to hang himself in his cell on August 18.

She said the incident happened at around 1 a.m., shortly after Komisarjevsky and accomplice Steven Hayes were transferred to the SCI Camp Hill Correctional Institution in Pennsylvania.

The two recently had their death sentences changed to life in prison without parole.

Martucci said the incident didn’t require medical attention outside the prison and that Komisarjevsky is receiving mental health treatment.

The men were convicted in the triple murder of Jennifer Hawke-Petit and her two daughters. The father, William Petit, survived.
