(BRIDGEPORT,Conn./CBS Connecticut & AP) – 13 people suffered gunshot wounds early Sunday morning in Bridgeport. Officers responded to 19 Plymouth Street shortly before 1:30am and found multiple victims.
10 of the victims were taken to Bridgeport Hospital and three went to St.Vincent’s Medical Center. 11 suffered non-life threatening wounds to their lower extremities. A female was shot in the face and is listed in critical condition. One male sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his face. By Sunday afternoon, only five people remained hospitalized.
Police say it appears the shots were fired by at least 2 shooters through hedges from the backyard of 31/33 Plymouth Street, opening fire on more than 100 people attending a large house party.
Police say the people who threw the party had gone to the police department at one point to try to apply for a permit to sell alcohol, which was denied.
Police say they believe they charged for alcohol anyway, and could face criminal charges.
A motive for the shooting remains unclear. Police are investigating whether the suspects were partygoers.
