(Hartford, Conn./CBS Connecticut) – The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is reminding park goers that the last weekends of lifeguard covered swim areas are approaching.
DEEP says it’ll maintain coverage through the Labor Day weekend wherever possible.
However, with many lifeguards returning to school, after Labor Day there will be no lifeguard on duty at many of the state’s designated swim areas.
Deputy Commissioner Susan Whalen says they still encourage visits to state parks but also be mindful there might not always be lifeguards on hand.
She also suggests staying in designated swimming areas, watching children, and not drinking alcohol and swimming.
Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison, Squantz Pond in New Fairfield, and Rocky Neck State Park in East Lyme will have lifeguards the next two weekends and Labor Day.
Indian Well in Shelton and Silver Sands in Milford will have lifeguards Labor Day weekend.
