(STAMFORD,Conn./CBS Connecticut) – Stamford Police have charged the driver of a minivan involved in a fatal collision with a bicyclist in May.Police say 28 year old Jerry Bastein of Stamford was using a hand held cellphone at the time of the collision.
The bicyclist, 72 year old Abdul Aziz of Stamford was attempting to cross Tresser Boulevard May 9 when he struck the passenger side of Bastien’s vehicle. Aziz hit the pavement and suffered a severe head injury. He died the next day.
Bastien is charged with one count of Use of Hand-Held Mobile Telephones and Mobile Electronic Devices by a Motor Vehicle Operator.
Bastien is due in Stamford Superior Court August 31.
