(Shelton, Conn./CBS Connecticut) – A Shelton man is facing charges after State Police say he was driving the wrong way early this morning on Route 8 in
They say the vehicle driven by 64-year-old Walter Ciepiela was spotted traveling south in the northbound lanes near exit 11 a little before 1 a.m.
Troopers say Ciepiela’s vehicle traveled along Route 8 into Bridgeport, traveling at speeds reaching 60 miles per hour as they performed “slow rolls” and deployed stop sticks in an attempt to corral the vehice. At one point, they say a trooper’s cruiser was nearly hit.
Police say the vehicle, a Honda CRV, continued south on to Interstate 95 before it was finally stopped.
They say Ciepiela failed a subsequent field sobriety test.
He now faces a number of charges, including operating under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, reckless driving, driving the wrong way on a divided highway, and possess of drug paraphernalia.
Bond was set at $50,000.
