Drowning Probe In East Haven

(East Haven, Conn./CBS Connecticut) – Police in East Haven are investigating an apparent drowning.

They say the call came in just before 6 p.m. Friday evening to pool at a condo complex on redwood drive.

Officers say a caller told them 39-year-old John Vitali had been underwater about two minutes.

He was pulled from the water unresponsive, after which aid was given.

He was rushed to Yale New Haven hospital but died this morning.

Police officials say there was no lifeguard on duty but a pool attendant was assigned to that area.

The attendant told officers Vitali was with his son in the deep end of the pool when the father went under for an extended period of time.
