STORRS, Conn. (AP) — An outbreak of a flu-like illness at UConn has sent at least three students to the hospital.
UConn spokeswoman Stephanie Reitz says the school has received numerous reports over the past two days of students suffering from nausea, vomiting, weakness and other flu-like symptoms.
Three students were transported Saturday and early Sunday morning to nearby Windham Hospital for treatment.
Reitz says tests are being done to determine whether the illness is viral, bacterial or perhaps the result of food poisoning.
She says several of those who fell ill live and ate meals at Buckley Hall. But she says others had not recently visited that part of campus.
Reitz says the school follows strict standards for handling food, and there is no indication of a problem with the food system.
