(CBS Connecticut) –– Bridgeport police say a Bridgeport man faces charges of assault on a police officer and other charges after crashing his car into a police cruiser Saturday.
Police called to a domestic dispute about 9:30 a.m. learned that the suspect had left before their arrival, but found him as they circled the block. Police say the driver was swerving back and forth into incoming lanes, and hit the cruiser even after it pulled to the side of the road.
Damage to the suspect’s own vehicle was serious enough that he was unable to drive away from the scene, but he fled on foot.
The policeman injured in the accident called a description and arriving officers arested the suspect later identified as 47-year-old Michael Bailey after a short chase.
Both the injured officer and the suspect were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.
