Knee Surgery For Buchholz

BOSTON (AP) _ Boston Red Sox right-hander Clay Buchholz has undergone minor knee surgery after an inconsistent season.

The operation to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee took place Tuesday, two days after he started the team’s final game. General manager Ben Cherington said Buchholz pitched with the injury throughout the season.

Buchholz finished with an 8-11 record and 5.34 ERA despite pitching two complete-game, three-hit shutouts.

On Sunday, he was the starter for the last game of Derek Jeter’s career, won 9-5 by the New York Yankees. In Jeter’s two at bats against him, the Yankees captain lined out to shortstop and drove in a run with a chop single to third base. Buchholz left after allowing four runs on five hits in six innings.
