Add another nearly $2 million in PAC money to the tally in Connecticut’s race for governor.
According to filings with the State Elections Enforcement Commission first reported by the Connecticut Mirror, the political action committee Connecticut Forward, an affiliate of the Democratic Governors Association, collected $1.15 million from two national public employee unions, while the Republican Governors Association added another $800,000 to Grow Connecticut, a Republican PAC with ties to challenger Tom Foley.
The contributions to Connecticut Forward to back Dannel P. Malloy’s re-election bid are $900,000 from the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees and $250,000 from the American Federation of Teachers. Connecticut Forward has raised $2.4 million this election season, far surpassing the 2010 race between the same two candidates.
Two months ahead of the election, the RGA’s support of Grow Connecticut totals $1.5 million, which is $100,000 shy of what it raised for Foley’s campaign four years ago.
