WASHINGTON, Conn. (CBS Connecticut)  –  What began as a domestic incident on Old Waterbury Road in Southbury Saturday,with the suspect fleeing and  stealing a neighbors vehicle which contained a handgun, ended Monday in Washington with a pursuit, crash and a police involved shooting.

A Waterbury  Police Officer  spotted the stolen vehicle and attempted to stop it, but the driver fled.A Trooper spotted the vehicle on Main Street in Woodbury and along with a Woodbury Town Officer tried to stop the vehicle.The suspect crashed  at Wykeham Road and Bell Hill Road  in Washington.The suspect then tried to ram a State Police  cruiser and the  officers vehicle.

The  suspect displayed weapon toward the trooper and  officer and refused orders to surrender it.They fired  upon the suspect who then took out a  knife and  pointed it toward his neck.The trooper utilized his taser  and forcibly removed the suspect from the vehicle.

The trooper  and officer suffered  minor injuries and were treated at St.Mary’s Hospital and   released.

The suspect is  under State Police guard at Waterbury Hospital and will be charged upon release.

The investigation is continuing.
