OLD SAYBROOK, Conn. (CBS Connecticut)  –  An arrest has been made in a gun shop robbery Tuesday morning.

Thomas Russo, 25, of 79 Fenwood Drive, Old Saybrook, is charged with the theft of 10 stolen handguns and two high-powered rifles from the Grouse Perch on North Main Street in Old Saybrook.

The store owner discovered the burglary Tuesday morning and called police around 10:26 a.m.

After investigating the scene, police went to Russo’s home and he eventually came out after an hour-long standoff.

“I am very proud of the men and women of our Department,” said Michael A. Spera, Chief of Police. “They worked tirelessly today to ensure the safety of our community by getting stolen guns off our streets.”

He’s charged with second-degree burglary, second-degree larceny and multiple firearms theft. Several guns as well as heroin was seized from his home.

He’s being held on $750,000 bond and is due in Middletown Superior Court Friday.
