Arrest Made In Shoreline Gun Theft

(OLD SAYBROOK,Conn./CBS Connecticut)  –  Old Saybrook Police have arrested  a 25 year old local man  in the theft of  16  firearms,13 handguns and  3  high powered rifles, from the Grouse Perch gun shop  on North Main Street  Tuesday.The owner made the discovery  about 10:30 Tuesday  morning.

Thomas Russo was   taken into custody after a one hour standoff with police.Once inside  , officers  recovered  multiple firearms  and heroin from inside the home at  79 Fernwood Drive. Additional evidence was also seized.

Russo is charged with Burglary,Larceny,Criminal Mischief,16 counts of Theft of  a Firearm and  16 counts of Criminal Possession  of a Firearm by a  Convicted Felon.

Russo is being held in lieu of $750,000  bond  for a Thursday appearance in  Middletown Superior Court.

The investigation remains active with  agents from ATF,Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms  assisting.Additional arrests are possible.
