Baby Identified In Fatal Bristol Stabbing, Uncle Charged With Murder

BRISTOL, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) _ A 1-year-old girl is dead after being stabbed at a Prospect Street home, her uncle is in custody, charged with murder.

Police were called to 211 Park St. around 7:18 p.m. Monday and found Zaniyah Calloway, of Bristol, suffering from a stab wound to her mid-section.

She was taken to Bristol Hospital and later flowing to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center where she died from her injuries.

A suspect in the case, Arthur Hapgood, 36, of Waterbury, came out of the house and turned himself into police without incident.

He was taken to Bristol Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. He’s later taken to the Bristol Police department charged with murder with special circumstances (victim under 16 years of age), first-degree reckless endangerment and risky of injury to a minor.

Police say the later two charges are because an 11-year-old child was present during the incident, but was not injured.

Hapgood was babysitting at the time of the incident.
