Former Bank Employee Pleads Guilty To Embezzling $400,000

(CBS Connecticut) — Federal prosecutors say a former bank employee has pleaded guilty to embezzling from People’s United Bank.  40-year-old Maria Estevez of Bridgeport waived her right to indictment in entering the plea.

The investigation found that Esteves was able to embezzle more than $400,000 over 21 years by issuing cashiers’ checks from the bank for her personal bills,  and by depositing cashiers’ into her own bank accounts.

At her sentencing this fall she could be sentenced to up to 30 years in prison, fined up to a million dollars,  and ordered to pay back the money.
