New Britain Council Leader Steps Down

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) _ The head of New Britain’s Common Council is stepping down.

The New Britain Herald reports Michael Trueworthy, 36, barged into the office of Mayor Erin Sewart last week, drunk, and started shouting profane and insulting language directed at the mayor.

Trueworthy upon his arrival, he also reportedly demanded a drink. He said he’s struggled with alcohol throughout his life and will step down as mayor pro tem – which heads the Common Council and is next in line to the mayor – and get help.

He did say that he’ll remain on the council as an alderman.

Stewart reported the incident to police, but is not pressing charges.
