SUFFIELD, Conn. (AP) _ A 12-year-old boy has died after being struck by a truck while riding his bicycle in Suffield.

Francis Anthony Alamo was struck by a box truck as he was riding his bicycle on Mountain Road with a group of children. It happened around 2:40 p.m. Thursday near the Suffield Middle School.

The boy, a seventh grade student, was taken to Baystate Hospital where he later died.

Suffield Superintendent of Schools Karen Baldwin says Francis was “a bright, creative young man” who “brought energy and enthusiasm” to his classes and activities.

Grief counselors will be available at Suffield Middle School today, Friday, July 25, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. A schedule for counseling next week will be available on the school’s Website:

The cause of the crash is being investigated. No charged have been filed against the truck driver.
