Milford Man Pleads Guilty To Theft From Charities

MILFORD, Conn. (AP) _ A 70-year-old Milford man faces four years in prison for stealing tens of thousands of dollars from three charities.

The New Haven Register reports Richard Weir pleaded guilty Tuesday to larceny charges.

Prosecutors say since 1990, Weir stole about $237,000 from The Rotary Club, the Special Olympics and the Milford Club. Some of that money was returned to the charities before Weir’s arrest.

Defense attorney Howard Germeiner says Weir had intended to pay back all the money and is very remorseful.

Germeiner says Weir will have to make restitution of just under $177,000 as part of the plea agreement.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 6
