West Nile Virus Is Back

(HARTFORD,Conn./CBS Connecticut)  –  The  first  mosquitoes to test positive for  West Nile Virus  in Connecticut this year  have been identified.The mosquitoes were trapped in East Haven on July 16.

Typically  early to mid-July is when we begin to see an increase in the number of infected mosquitoes.People should take steps to  reduce the risk of mosquito bites from now through September.

There were  four  human cases of West Nile Virus  confirmed in Connecticut last year, two in Stamford  and one each in Bridgeport and Stratford.Human cases of West Nile normally do not appear in Connecticut  until later in the season, in August and September.
